The world cup 2006 was Australias first appearance in the finals since 1974. The self styled 'Sooceroos' did themselves proud, and those who placed a football bet on them qualifying for the second round are cashing in. A win against Japan in the opening game and a draw in theory next was enough to see them qualify. And in truth they were unlucky not to beat Italy in the first knockout game. Australians were previously more into their rugby, AFL and Ashes betting than soccer, but this tournament changed all that, as the whole nation got behind the team.
